We are so excited to see you and your furry companion here at Pawsome Vet Care! Here’s what to expect during your visit, and some tips to make your visit go as smoothly as possible:
For all patients:
- Please provide us with your companion’s medical history before your appointment, so we can review it and make sure we know what your pet needs and what their prior medical issues or concerns have been. We can reach out to your prior vet ahead of time if you prefer. Some vets may require you to sign off on a medical history transfer.
- Please bring a stool sample with you, especially if you are bringing in your companion for diarrhea. We may choose not to run it, but it’s easy for us to discard if that’s the case.
- Bringing a list of medications including the dose and frequency, as well as what food(s) your pet is currently eating—including any snacks, treats, chews, and people food—is extremely helpful!
- If there is anything prior vets have done while handling, managing, treating, or vaccinating your pet that have not gone well, or that have worked particularly well, please let us know ahead of time. This includes things like vaccine reactions, muzzle use, preferred ways to draw blood, if your companion is calmer with or without you, etc.
- When you arrive, we will try to get you into an exam room as soon as possible. You may be asked to wait until a room is available. If you have children with you, please be prepared to keep them calm and entertained, and away from other patients for safety reasons. We appreciate how challenging that can be, and are happy to help make any reasonable accommodations we can to assist you.
- Once you are in an exam room, a technician or assistant will review the reason for your visit and get a brief history of any concerns you have. They may make an assessment of your companion’s current status to report to the doctor. For wellness exams, they will discuss what your pet is due for and go over a treatment plan including costs for expected care at that time. That step will wait until after the doctor exam for ill patients, so that the treatment plan can be tailored according to patient needs.
- The doctor will then examine your companion, and discuss their findings and recommendations. Any additional testing or treatment recommendations will be reviewed, including costs, so you can make an informed decision with how you want to proceed.
- Any treatments, testing, and vaccinations decided on will then be performed. You will be given time to ask any questions, and then we will get you checked out in the exam room so you can get your friend home!
- You are welcome to take notes, and we can send home any information you may need after your visit. If you wish to video record, FaceTime, or otherwise photograph or record members of our team, please ask permission first.
