For cats:

  • Please bring your cat in in a carrier that allows us easy access to them if they don’t wish to come out. This means one of the carrier types where the top can come off (not zip-tied or rusted shut), or in a cat bag, kitty backpack, or the like. We strongly prefer not to have to haul cats out of carriers or dump them out, as that is very scary for them. It is common for us to examine nervous cats in the carrier bottom or bag as they often feel safer that way.
  • If your kitty is more comfortable being leashed instead of in a carrier, please let our team know so that we can get you straight into an exam room. We do not want to have unprotected cats in the waiting room while dogs come in!
  • If you have happy cat pheromone spray, like Feliway, at home, spritz the carrier or cat bag about 30 minutes prior to putting them in there. Using catnip or favorite treats in there can also help. Make sure the carrier has a cushy towel or bed as well—we want your feline friend as comfortable as possible.
  • Please let us know if your cat gets panicky or aggressive at the vet. We may want to use some medications to help calm them down and make them less scared, and will utilize other strategies to make them more comfortable and safe.
We love using tasty treats as distractions for cats who are willing. If your cat has a preference for flavors, like chicken, fish, cheese, whipped cream, etc., please let us know.
